It has been 4-5 months since i brought my seagate expansion 1tb, But now my hard disk is showing many problems. Like when i insert the expansion into the pen drive slot, my PC recognizes the hard disk . But when i click on the H: drive, it shows this " You need to format the disk in H: before you can use it , do you want to format ? " Then i click on cancel button because there is about 700 GB of files in it , and i cannot format them. Then comes another dialog box saying " H:\ is not accessible. Data error (cyclic redundancy check). And then my windows explorer goes not responding . Please i need help in this kind of problem ! help me !
Thank u in advance :) :??:

Hey there, chatts007.
I'd suggest that you try the drive with a different computer and a different USB cable (not longer than 12"), to see if the same thing happens. I'd recommend that you try accessing the drive via Linux Live CD/USB, in order to see if it's properly recognized and if you can get to your data to back it up. If that doesn't work, you could always try some of the data recovery programs from this thread here: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1644496/lost-data-recovery.html to see if you are able to retrieve your data this way.
If you've recovered your data successfully, I'd suggest that you try the chkdsk command. Note that this may cause data/partition corruption and that's why I recommend that you try to recover...
Note that this may cause data/partition corruption and that's why I recommend that you try to recover your files before that. If you decide to try and see if it fixes the issues with your drive, here's how to do it:
1. Open up CMD (for Windows 7 and 8.1) - click start button and write cmd and press "enter"
2. Type in chkdsk /f /r H: (H: is the letter of the drive you wish to check, which in your case is H:, don't forget to change it if the external drive is using a different letter) and press "enter"
3. Wait for the process to finish and reconnect your drive to see if you can access it.

You could also download the manufacturer's diagnostic tool to try and test the HDD, to see what's the situation with it.

Hope that helps. Let me know how everything goes.
