Ares ii is technically stronger because its 2 cards but you will have issues when playing newer games or games that do not scale well with crossfire. I would recommend just getting a new 970 since it will have warranty.

If you have a GTX 970, why bother buying a used ARES II?
Of course the ARES II is much stronger, but you wouldnt have warranty and crossfire is not well supported by all games. If you didnt have any card, then I would pick the ARES II, but stick the gtx 970, and that brand is great.

Oh i see. The Ares 2 still has over a year of warranty left. I wont be spending anything extra on the Ares 2. I'll buy it for the price I'll get from selling my GTX 970. But what kinda crossfire issues are you guys talking about?

Crossfire does not scale as well as sli and games tend to not support crossfire on launch so you would only be using one gpu. Also you might experience screen tearing

There is no exact percentage because each game handles crossfire differently. The ares 2 is essentially a 7990. This link is a 7990 vs a 970 http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1074?vs=1355

It handles it pretty well but not as well as sli.
