A laptop a relative of mine owns suddenly shut off and now gets stuck in a boot loop when you attempt to turn it back on, persisting until one completely cuts off the power.

Upon booting you're shown the BIOS screen, but I am unable to boot into any diagnostic tools as it shuts off too quickly; same with trying to access the BIOS configuration menu.

Boot loop persists when attempting to run the laptop off of AC with battery removed.

It doesn't seem to be a problem with the HDD as I was able to use it without issue in my own machine.
There weren't any signs of a HDD failure, but felt I should try to rule it out anyway.
Moreover, I was able to get this laptop to boot just fine with a different HDD installed.

Not sure what's going on here, so any and all help/suggestions are appreciated. Since I was able to get the laptop to boot with a different HDD, I'll try to run some diagnostic tools later and let you know how it turns out.

Thank you.

I managed to sort it out. Booted up the laptop without a hard drive, accessed BIOS settings, and then changed the boot order and disk controller.
Can't say I know which one of those actions solved it or why, but at this point I couldn't care less. Everything is now functioning as it should.
