Potentially fried rear USB ports

I recently got a new case (Corsair Carbide 500r) and I put my build into it today. When I first powered it on I got a message that told me "there is an overcurrent on the USB device, shutting down in 15 seconds to avoid damage to the mainboard." As soon as I saw this I turned my computer off and unplugged the internal USB connector and powered my PC back on. It booted normally except for the fact that nothing plugged into my rear USB was working. I restarted again, same thing. The next thing I tried was plugging the front USB back into the motherboard with a different USB 3.0 the 2.0 converter, no message about overcurrent, but the rear USB still does not work. Does anyone know what can be done about this?

TL;DR I think a defective USB 3.0 to 2.0 connecter fried my motherboard, and I want to know if anyone has a solution.

It doesn't sound like your board is fried...It would also be unlikely that an over current fried ports that quickly. what all did you have plugged in? and what MOBO do you have? the case shouldn't make a difference.
