Ok so I hope I don't write too much and bore people because I need some help.

So I put this rig together and it is the second time I have put a PC together. I even use tutorials on youtube (linus) to walk me through most of the build just to keep me on track.

Just to start these are my main components:

CPU- AMD FX-8320
Mobo- Asus M5A97
RAM- G. Skill Ripjaws (2 X 4 GB)
Storage- Samsung 850EVO ( this is the only one until I get my OS on then I'll add my 1TB Western Digital)
Case- Raidmax Vortex
PSU- Thermaltake 750W 80+ Gold
GPU- EVGA GeForce GTX 960

So I am not getting any video and no POST beeps. I originally though it must
be the video card or the MB but the video cards fans pop on for a quick second (they turn off until the internal temp reaches a certain degree) and the power LED on the MB is working as well as all the fans and the CD drive.

I also tried to change the slots the RAM and the GPU were in as well as starting the computer with each individual RAM stick in, no avail.

I snagged a different GPU from a buddy and that kicked on but no video. I tried using an HDMI cable as well as a VGA cable, no go.

I thought maybe somehow I inserted the CPU wrong but I checked and didn't. Then I thought maybe I got some thermal paste inside of the CPU sockets so I took apart the fan and CPU again. All I can see is MAYBE on socket has too much thermal paste in it to where it would clog it and stop a connection from being made. There is some paste on the pins themselves but it doesn't cover the pin at all and for the most part can and would make a solid connection.

The last thing I can think of if the PSU not supplying full power. I am using a semi-modular PSU and I had read that sometimes they can perform below standards. I ordered a multimeter this weekend and I am going to give that a shot.

One final thing is the CPU is flat out DOA.

So anyways if anyone has any other suggestions or tips or ANYTHING please respond!!!

this is toms basic pc test list

here is a quick breakdown to test companents

Then for testing, I build the PC in stages. I start off with only the CPU and HSF installed, boot, and listen for the long single, "no memory" beeps - also make it easier to check that the HSF is properly installed. Then I add memory, boot, and listen for the one long and two or three short "no video card beeps". Then add the video card and monitor and I should hear the short beep and see the boot messages on the screen. And then, like this example, I usually add the keyboard, mouse, and connect the drives to install the OS. And I know that when I install parts in the case, they work.

I have tried that solution checklist as well. All seems to be in order. I think the only things I have left to do is check the power output on mt PSU and consider the fact that my CPU might be DOA.

I doubt it's the PSU tho because everything is working as far as fans and cd drive and LEDs on the MOBO. Also, its a 600W PSU and my estimated wattage is only 385W.

DOA CPU? Now only if I could get a hold of AMD tech support....
