I received a new WD 2TB HDD yesterday.

Surprisingly only once I saw the HDD as SATA in BIOS but later on it was being detected as PATA in BIOS and size reduced to 0.0 GB !! The OS also is not detecting the HDD.

I tried changing the cables & ports but the result is the same. The BIOS Is the latest one on the board.

Can anyone suggest what just happened.

M/b- Intel DG41RQ
Ram - 4 GB
OS - WIN 7

Thanks for your suggestions

Hey there, bikerider!

I'm sorry to hear about that! :( I'd suggest you to check for any updates on the SATA drivers from your motherboard manufacturer's website. Another thing you can try to fix the problem is resetting BIOS by re-seating the CMOS battery or using any of the other methods listed here: http://www.wikihow.com/Reset-Your-BIOS
However, this will put all your BIOS settings back to factory defaults, so keep in mind that you'd need to re-configure them after the reset.
I'd also suggest to try the WD drive on another computer and see how it will get detected there, so that we know for sure what is the source of the issue.

Keep us posted! Hope this helps you! :)

Hi SuperSoph_WD

Thanks for your suggestion.

I tried the HDD on another system but the results were the same. In the second system also the New WD HDD was detected as PATA.

I have tried changing the CMOS battery but that also bore no fruit.

Since I purchased the device via EBAY the seller is refusing to Honor the WD commitment of replacing a faulty device with a new one. I have no option but to proceed with RMA.

Thanks for your Support

I see then. :( Yes, I also think that it's probably best to RMA the WD drive and get your replacement.
Here are a couple of useful links that can walk you through the procedure.
