looking for build for Adobe CC mainly, currently have older mac pro, looking at going down the AMD route and building system around A10 APU, but not sure if technology is there and I seem to be swiming around deeper and deeper into the rabbet hole, i7 vs xenon

Solution
The AMD A10 is an APU and no match to an i7 or even i5 in terms of processing power. Even the FX 9 is not enough to match i5's single core performance, and in many situations the multi-core as well. Intel would be my top choice for Video editing build on a budget of $1.5-2K.

Xeon (E3) is basically a locked i7 without integrated graphics. It does have server level endurance and is a great choice for video editing or 3D modelling builds where stability is very important, for hours of video processing. With that budget you might even consider going the LGA 2011v3 route which features even more processing power, and faster memory bandwidth.

Also, a Nvidia card is great add-on since all Adobe apps support GPU acceleration.

Thanks, helped a lot just with the 2011-v3

are you talking like "Intel Core i7-5930K" or Intel Xeon E5?

I have enough hard drives and a fairly beefy Nvidia card already, So I am going to try and aim for best processor/ mem mother board I can afford and upgrade rest in time.

you haven't picked a Video Card. I think you'll do better with a Xeon or i7 4790k.

You'd be better off with the 5820k, value/money wise. The 5830k has more PCIe lanes unlocked (40 vs 28 in 5820k) but you're not going to need them unless you want to do 3 or 4 GPU config in SLI (which again isn't required for rendering, GPUs can work in non-SLI mode). Xeon E5 are quite pricey right now, and i7 5xxx series are quite powerful. You can get a build under $1.5k:

But I'd recommend getting better (frequency/ timings) or more RAM which helps in video editing.
