I'd like to know if the M.2 Socket is only PCIe compatible or also allows SATA3 SSD on it.

I need to know about the M.2 socket, not the normal SATA ports.

Specifically, i have a Crucial CT256M550SSD4 that want to know if I can put on it.

Solution
I researched about your query a bit, and the info suggests that the M.2 socket is SATA and PCIe compatible, and you can use SATA3 M.2 SSD on it. Here's what I saw:

1. The Product page on Newegg for basic SSD info:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148798

It's a 2280 M.2 SATA3 SSD. That is, it uses SATA3 as it's interface.

2. Product page of GB X99 Gaming 5:

http://www.gigabyte.in/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5125#sp

It says that the M.2 SSD socket is SATA and PCIe compatible, which means that it can use both SATA and PCIe controller to provide bandwidth. Moreover, the M.2 support list states that Crucial's M550 128GB which also uses SATA interface, is supported...

3. More general info about M.2 SSDs:

In light of the above, the M.2 connector does indeed support SATA3 M.2 SSDs.
