My PC became slow all of a sudden?

So I got my PC around 4 months ago, it's been fast and I'm always making sure what I download it safe and others say their computers are fine with it. I've been playing GTA 5 a lot and it's been fine up til about a few days ago and it started getting very laggy. I've also noticed my PC getting slower to load programmes, web pages etc. I've ran 2 antivirus scans with McAfee and both came out as no problems/viruses. The last thing I downloaded before this started happening was probably a mod for GTA 5 which thousands of people have downloaded and not had problems with it.

PC Specs:
Intel Core i5 4690 @3.5GHZ
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 2GB
8GB 1333mhz DDR3 RAM
Corsair 550W VS PSU
2TB Seagate Hardrive
Gigabyte H81 Motherboard

Have you used any anti malware software as it's different to anti-virus?
Try malwarebytes: https://www.malwarebytes.org/
Or even CCleaner just to keep everything in check: https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner
Also, if you've had it a while you may want to defrag it using windows, CCleaner or Auslogics: http://www.auslogics.com/en/software/disk-defrag/

I tried both of those things and it actually became better for about 2 hours then my PC started getting laggy again, today it is noticeably very laggy and slower than before. I'm concerned as this PC cost around £700 and I only got it 4 months ago. Any more help would be very good, so please reply ASAP.

First, ensure that your drivers are up to date, secondly, does it do this on other games and if so, does it do it on all settings, or just higher specs. Finally, did you build it yourself, or was it prebuilt?

My drivers are up to date, I haven't tried it on other games but I would imagine so on graphic demanding games, If you mean the game settings I have them all on settings my PC can handle and has been handling until this point, I run GTA 5 on Normal Settings on everything in 1080p and its 60fps. My PC was pre-built from a website called DinoPC.

Is this GTA "mod" in fact an update? Because perhaps (I don't know for sure) they have just patched something and increased graphics, so it will be more taxing on your system.

No, there was recently an update for the game but it wasn't a major update. The mod I got was just a way you could change stuff in the game you couldn't usually change (changing your player model etc.)

If this is an issue on all games in the same way then I advise you use MSI afterburner or something similar to log your system while playing and see what you can find or post here.

It isn't an issue on all games, only GTA 5.

If it's on Steam, go to local content and verify the integrity of the game cache just in case a texture file has corrupted or something, Also, are the other games you tried it on similarly performance intensive. Finally, is you GPU overclocked?

Right, I understood 0 of what you said there, I'll try and find a cache folder and see if it has any differences I guess but other than that you will probably need to help me. Yes I tried Far Cry 4 and there were no problems there. I also tried a few other games like Battlefield 3 and The Forest. My GPU isn't overclocked, or at least I didn't make any changes to it so I don't know.

So, to verify all game files you need to launch Steam, right click on ht e game in question (GTA V), then go properties, local files and then "verify integrity of the game cache". This will check all game files are up-to-date and in full. If there is something missing, it will re-download them. If the problem is still there, then perhaps re-install the whole program, else: I have no answer I'm afraid.
