Is the diamond multimedia r9 290 4gb good or bad

Hi guys i just wanted to know if this card was terrible bcoz i dont see it in alot of vids at all . Does it give the same performance as the other r9 290s out there. Plz let me know before i buy.

It is neither good nor bad. It is entirely your personal preference whether or not to buy this card. I could say that it is not very popular as most people tend not to buy from this vendor. Moreover this card is a reference version. The reference 290 ran very hot and its cooler was notoriously bad.

Why don't you buy from the more established vendors like XFX/Sapphire?

because i live in AU and this one is $240 usd or $320 and i dont want to spend to much on a gpu as my build will cost over $1000 aud. should i swap the i5 4690 (not k) to i5 4590.if it delivers the same performance then i will go for the xfx edition r9 290 non x. Is this a good idea?

Can you give us an accurate (AU Dollars, please) budget?

The actual card itself is good, but the reference, single fan cooler is total pap, even at stock speed in a warm room it'll cause the card to overheat and throttle while making a lot-and I mean a lot-of noise. There is replacement kits out there but TBH what you'll save now will be spent on the replacement later and you'll invalidate the warranty by doing so.

You have a good idea, the 4590 is only a fraction slower than the 4690K and is less expensive, you'll also be able to pair it with a less expensive MB, but do remember the Haswell CPUs do like fast memory.

Either you'll need to extend your budget, lower your expectations or look for a used part, the cheapest R9 290 on Partpicker AU is <>$400, the next best option would be the R9 280X at <>$330.

My budget is 950 dollars aud which is about 750$ usd. the pcs plus r9 290 cost 260 usd which is about 330 aud. Im also using asus vanguard b85.
