Hello, first off I'd like to thank anyone who took the time to come and read my post, and a double thanks if you take the time to respond!

Recently my first ssd that I bought the samsung 840 pro 256gb was about full. So I went ahead and purchased a samsung 850 pro 256gb. On the X79 sabertooth motherboard there is only two intel sata 6g/bs ports, and now both are being used by my ssds. I actually had to move my 1tb hdd to a sata 3g/bs port. Well on the motherboard there are two sata 6 marvell ports. I was curious in the future if I were to get another ssd, could I use the marvell sata 6 ports for just basic storage? Also my hdd is a sata 6g/bs hdd, but I read that it really can't use the full potential of the sata 6g/bs port, that is why I just moved it to the sata 3g/bs port. So basically I was just wondering if I could use the two marvell ports, because they are actually labeled ssd caching on the motherboard, and I really don't know anything about ssd caching. I really just want to use them as basic storage, and I read that the marvell 6g/bs ports are actually slower than the intel sata ports. Or would it be better for me to get an expansion card that adds more sata 6g/bs ports.

Here is a link to the motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131801&cm_re=sabertooth_2011-_-13-131-801-_-Product

Once again thank you for anyone who takes the time to read this, and thank you if you take the time to answer. I hope you have a great day!

Sincerely, Nick.

Hey Nick,

Looks like the ports will work normally. The page you sent states that it has four SATA III ports so I see no reason for them to not work.

Marvell may be slower, but it shouldn't be by too much. You won't see a real world difference :)

You're right that HDDs do not saturate SATA III, in fact they don't even saturate SATA I. They are advertised as SATA III to make people go 'wow, very speed, much buy!'

Thank you sir for taking the time to answer my question. I hope you had a good weekend!

I have one other minor question, is there any benefit to ssd caching? I've read a few articles on it but I really don't understand it, sorry for my inconvenience of not having that much knowledge. There are many things to learn about computers, I learn 10 new things everyday.

There certainly is, it improves the speed of loading programs. However, it is easier to place programs and systems (like the OS) on to the SSD in the first place and not enable SSD caching - you'll get the same speeds and you decide which programs you use most, not the motherboard.
