Do I need a modem or router in another room for wired internet?

Downstairs, i have wired internet to one PC. Upstairs in my room i have just built a new PC. I have a phone port in my room and would prefer a wired connection through this with the same internet as downstairs. What do I need for this?

If you are living in new (post-2000) building - Take the wall plate off, and make a picture of the cable and connector used on that plate. If you are lucky, you could use that cable to connect to the Internet.
You will also need a router (if you don't have one) downstairs, to "distribute" the Internet around.
