Why is 16gb RAM recommended for video editing, and does 16gb RAM overheat when not editing?

Hello.

I'm choosing between a choice that I can either be happy with it or regret it. Let me just let USD be the currency. 8gb of ram is about $50 while 16gb is $110, right? This store sells $50 on 8gb, while $75 for 16gb. This is a choice I can't get back to.

Moving along, is 8gb RAM enough for video editing, or should I get 16gb? If I am NOT going to do ANY EDITING AT ALL, should I still get the 16gb, or just take the 8gb? Will 16gb of ram make my computer overheat or anything, especially when I'm not making use of the 16gb? I'm afraid that undesirable effects might happen when I go to 16gb. I'm asking this because I'm new to PC building.

Do i need my build or anything?

R9 270X 2gb
FX-8350 (come on, it's such a steal at this store, exactly the same cost as the 8320 :D )
MSI 970 Gaming or Asus M5A97-LE 2.0
Seasonic M12ii 620w
WD Blue 1TB
Crucial BX100 250gb
Cougar Challenger Case
Cooler Master Hyper T4
4x Thermaltake 120mm red LED case fans

The RAM IS G.skill RipjawsX 1866 Mhz. I'm asking about this right now. (2x4gb vs 2x8gb)

BTW: Can you guys tell me which motherboard is better and why?

Thanks guys!

I'd go the 16GB, most who do video end up doing bigger project, plus 8GB is entry level for systems, I've pointed my client to 16GB on new builds for over a year now. It's sort of telling when prebuilts have been coming with 6-8GB for over 6 months now as the builders are very skimpy with DRAM they want you to buy upgrades from them

On the mobo, I'd go with the Asus of those two, or move up to the 990 chipset if you can
