i don't think you need 12 gigs of RAM, 8gb of ram is the sweetsopt for gaming, and even then it does well for other tasks, but something like 16 gb might do better in other tasks. While you can combine RAM, it isn't reccomended because it isn't always guaranteed to run at that listed speed. It's more reliable to get a tested kit of 2 sticks of RAM, as they will run at the speed listed, or at least the JEDEC standard, and will be safer.
