I have both a 2.3 and 5 ghz network at my home. I'm able to connect to the 2.3 ghz one fine. But I can't see the other network. Idk if it cuz I set my region to 11 (im in the U.S.) . I'm trying to connect to it to speed up downloads. Since my computer likes to corrupt downloaded files

It is quite possible your computer doesn't have a dual band NIC. Just because a NIC is wireless N doesn't mean it is dual band. A number of phones and tablets are dual band. You might be able to check your 5Ghz signal that way. WIFI Analyzer is a great android app to troubleshoot WIFI signals.
