Hey guys I have a problem. I have some unknown folders on my boot drive that I just don't know what to do with. On the main drive there are three folders all a seemingly random combination of letters and numbers.

Inside the first folder 9b155a1a626810f0994b2f74

Inside folder 1025

This is repeated within all of the folders.

Go back to main then into folder 683745906266737265

Inside folder cpbf0000000000000000000

This is repeated within all the folders.

Go back to main then into c14f135ad6c08f20190e

Then into 1025

This is repeated within all the folders.

Now what i'm wondering is if these files are necessary because they are quite large (nearly 35gb total) and they just seen to be duplicates of the same file repeated over and over. Also no other computers I have seen have this on their boot drives. Do you think I could delete them without any problems or should I not touch them.

Solution
The date of your incident matches the time stamps on the root level folders (11/April). So there is a fair chance the two events are connected. You could check the windows update history to be sure.

I believe the folders with the random names are just temp files used when unpacking the MSI installer. And so are safe to delete.

If you are worried, just rename the folders then reboot. Check that everything still works. Once you are sure nothing is broken, delete the folders.

I had an incident 3-4 weeks ago where windows was installing updates (after shutting down the computer) and I accidentally unplugged the computer from the wall. Then when I restarted my computer it reverted the updates and I went on without incident. But there are no other incidents I can think of.
