Hi guys i have recently moved to australia, melbourne and am looking to make my first gaming computer, i am looking for "value for money" components, request your advice/guidance on this combination as of 4 May 2015:
Asus MAXIMUS VII RANGER LGA1150 ATX Motherboard - $245
Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz Socket 1150 - BX80646I54460 - $255
Silverstone Strider 1000W Gold EVO ST1000-G-EVO - $219
Seagate 3TB 7200RPM SATA3 ST3000DM001 - $139
Kingston 120GB 2.5 Inch SSDNow - $75
G.Skill Aegis 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600MHz - F3-1600C11D-8GISL - $85

I am not in a hurry to build a computer but plan to complete this in coming 3 months, have also not included a graphics card as i will buy it later when have more money. Please let me know how can i make this better or even cheaper. Also am planning not to buy a case as i want to keep all my components in open so need a motherboard which has 'start button' for the ease
Thanks

Do you want to go for sli/crossfire later on? The psu suggests that. If not get a cheaper psu.Do that anyway, this one is overkill.
The motherboard could be cheaper too since not overclocking, but if sli/crossfire is on your mind do you need to keep that in mind too.
I would also get a >240gb ssd and a smaller hdd,but that's me.

''Seagate 3TB 7200RPM SATA3 ST3000DM001'' DO NOT CHOOSE THIS HDD SINCE A LOT OF ISSUES WITH IT
all seagate barracuda are GOOD except the 3TB series

''Asus MAXIMUS VII RANGER'' OVERKILL
''Kingston 120GB 2.5 Inch SSDNow'' CRAP get the samsung 850 evo instead

''Silverstone Strider 1000W Gold EVO ST1000-G-EVO'' very good psu but OVERKILL
do you need 1000W ?????

Hi Vic,
Thanks for replying, I am not sure if i would be going ahead with SLI/Crossfire, but in the future am planning to buy gtx 980 or 970, so i do not want my other components to be a bottleneck for it, I might be wrong. Also reason for choosing that motherboard is that it has a start/reset button built on it as am planning not to buy a case and keep my components open. Please let me know if you feel I could go with something else as currently am crossing my budget of A$1000 with this config

Hi Badboy,
Thanks for updating me on HDD's if you could suggest some alternative for these in same price or less that would be great. Also what would be a best psu for gtx 980. The reason for choosing this motherboard is that it has start/reset button on it, as am planning not to buy a case as i want to keep all my components in open so need a motherboard which has start button for the ease of it, if there is something else available, please let me know

Other psu's capable of even sli,

other motherboards with power/reset buttons,

other (2tb) hdd's,

do you really need 3tb of storage?
Maybe thought about a bit bigger ssd? Like >240gb.It fills up easier than you'd think.
