Background: External HDD was from my laptop which cant bootup, it was running on windows 8 64bit. HDD model: WD10SPCX. Then, I bought a USB-SATA cable & plug it into my laptop running on windows 7 64bit. Laptop was able to detect the HDD, but doesnt show up in MY Computer. It does, however show up in disk management as a unknown drive with showing unallocated data.

Am at my wits end, trying to retrieve important data from the HDD. Can anyone advise me what I can do next?

Welcome to the community, charlieong!

I'm sorry to hear about your WD Blue drive issues. :( Since you have important data stored on it, I recommend NOT writing any data to drive at the moment. Your best bet at successfully retrieving your files is using the services of a professional data recovery company.
I'd suggest you to take a look at WD's Data Recovery Partners worldwide and find one closest to you: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=x57Vpl
Get in touch with them and ask about your chances of recovery.

I'd strongly recommend keeping backups of your data on at least 2 separate locations in the future, so that you'd avoid the headaches of data loss.

Good luck! Hope this helps you!

It looks like your HDD is formatted,i'm not sure if you can recover your date.

If you want your hdd to appear on my computer, right click it in disk management, select as new volume, follow the steps, done.
