Hi! I have no knowledge of building pcs, so I'm just going to buy one for about $500. Are there any ideas, like the alienware alpha or even this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PHLJLG6/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=? Or should I just buy an xbox one and not deal with any issues? thanks

If you are looking for best performance for price, then get a PS4. However know that consoles have much less customizability, and virtually no upgradeability. For around $500 you will probably not find a pre-built PC that offers the same performance as a PS4.

is the alienware good, or does it compete with these consoles (pretty much the same framerate and resolution?

As you can see here, the PS4 is better on paper. However, I personally prefer PC for it's upgradeability. As of now, if your budget is $500 and you're looking for a pre-built gaming system, I'd say go with a console. The sweet-spot for a PC is around $ 800-1000
