Hey Forums,

As a lot of others are, I am playing GTA V after the long awaited PC release, it has generally been going well for the last few weeks and I have gotten a good grasp of the game, other than a couple of small fps drops in high density areas the game has been a pretty smooth experience until today. Anyways, as soon as I start it up today, there is unbearable stuttering going on, and as expected, my GPU usage dips down to near 0 when I get the drops in fps. I was playing fine yesterday and to my knowledge there were no patches or anything, so I want to ask if anyone here knows what might be the problem. Thanks.

Phil

I will attach a screenshot of my GPU usage in case it helps.

(take note, at the times when the GPU usage is constantly low, that is when I am alt+tabbed)

Solution

Does this happen with the 347.88 driver?

tried a few other games, no problems.

If you're using the steam version, I don't know if it has the same issue that GTA IV had, but for that game I had to launch directly from the executable without using the steam launcher to do it, otherwise my fps got choppy over time. Supposedly GTA V has a bad memory leak which will dip into RAM/Page file as well https://support.rockstargames.com/hc/communities/public/questions/203363418-GTA-V-PC-Stutter-FPS-drop-linked-with-large-amount-of-hard-disk-usage.

Couple other things to try if you haven't; lower settings, and reinstall GTA V.

After searching for things I have recently installed or configured, I finally found that it was my new Logitech Mouse Software that was causing all of this. Thanks for all your time and help. Have a good day.

I was going to suggest repairing GTA. Go to Uninstall programs, select GTA V and it will say change instead of uninstall. After the window pops up, click "Repair GTA V". It fixed the crashes I was getting. Never got stuttering though.
