Hi,

I've been trying to overclock core i5 4670k to 4.2ghz using asrock software A-tune. I just went advanced > turbo 4.2 ghz , after I went on prime95 to test it, it automatically froze, leaving me helpless. That's the one thing that concerned me, since 4.2 ghz is normal oc for this cpu.

After having problems... I went on to test stock clockspeed temps (prime95). I was suprised, after 20 minutes of testing it hit like 75°C , no wonder why oc'ed setup froze... Idle temps are around 35-40°C.

I don't know what I've done wrong since I use cooler master hyper 212 evo.

At 4.2ghz in game temps go up to 80°C. I am confused.

pc:

asrock z87 extreme 4
core i5 4670k
8gb
gtx 770
corsair rm650w

thanks.

You need to learn how to adjust and test the VCORE; that's the number one factor when it comes to heat and stability. Any power-saving settings should also be disabled as they will dynamically adjust the clock speed and VCORE, even if these are configured manually.

Automatic VCORE will always allocate more than what's needed, and more VCORE means more heat.

I've uninstalled A-tune and OC'ed to 4.2ghz via bios (autosettings). First of all prime95 froze my pc within 3 minutes. But Intel Burn Test on high stress option pushed oc'ed cpu to 94°C. And yes multiplier is x 42.0. BIOS shows that Vcore is 1.021V

One wierd thing is that I've oc'ed to 4.2 but CPUz shows that clockspeed is 4050mhz.

These high temps scare me alot.
