Yes you can, but it using the system ram as video ram. regular ram is much slower so it will degrade performance vs having real vram. Is this for video editing or gaming?

Gaming..... and one more question, do I need to connect the 6 pin power connector on the gpu or could I use the gpu without the power connector without decreasing any performance?

Always connect the 6 pin power connector or any other extra power connector on the gpu. Otherwise the gpu might throttle you back for lack of power. Yeah increasing the virtual vram isn't going to help for gaming, because by the time you start using the virtual vram you fps will be so bad you won't want that extra rendering.

$50 gets you a good PSU. You can also get an adapter that will do what you need. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812200106
