A few things. For starters, yes that build can do anything. I mean anything. Two 980s and a 4790k could even handle games at 4k. I mean not everything would be 60fps at 4k, but most things would be, so yeah you should be able to do a little more than handle 1440p at max settings. You'll get 60 fps in EVERYTHING no problem. You might actually get 120-144 fps, though you might have to turn some settings down. As for criticisms, your psu is actually TOO good. That thing is a monster of a psu, and for two 980s, all you really need is an 850 watt psu. You'll save about a $100 no problem, just get the EVGA G2 850w Gold Efficiency PSU. It's perfect for your build. Also, you're motherboard does not have to be that good. Don't get me wrong, that thing is excellent, and if you want it, get it. But I would suggest the Asus Maximus VII Hero rather than the Ranger. You still get most of the gamer friendly features, and you save $100 again. Also, you're RAM doesn't have to be that good either. If you want something cheaper that will get you good price per performance get G. Skill Ares 16gb (2x8gb) DDR3 2133Mhz RAM, you'll save at least $30, maybe more. I don't know how good that cpu cooler is, but if you have researched it well, trust the company, and now how to install, then get it. With the money you save you can get a few other upgrades. One more big change I want to suggest is your graphics cards though. I know I said that two gtx 980s can do just about anything. And I'm right, they can. But there is one card that nVIDIA just released that is $1000, which is about $100 less than gtx 980 sli called the TITAN X which is their new flagship card. It is a monster that can churn out 60fps at 4k in most video games (practically speaking). If you've got the cash, GET IT! So with the $350 or so that you save with my suggestions you = actually have enough to do a few more upgrades. But I'll just give you a moment to process everything I just wrote.

As I said in my previous post, if you make the changes I suggest, you should save $350. With that money you can either improve your storage by getting a better ssd and a larger hdd, or, and this is the fun option, you could upgrade your cpu, motherboard, and ram from what you have listed to an x99 mobo with 16gb DDR4 and a hexacore CPU. Between that, the 850w psu, a terabte of storage, a sizable ssd, and a TITAN freakin X, you will have a build that can run any game at ultra settings at any resolution at 60fps, except for some games at 4k. It can't do 120 fps at 1440p, but it's an amazing single gpu. If you want some benchmarks, check this review out: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/nvidia-geforce-gtx-titan-x-gm200-maxwell,4091-3.html

Alright, so my build is a full $100 cheaper than yours and has everything you will ever need in a gaming pc. This thing could have you playing at 1440p for the next 5 years without upgrading, no problem. Right now you can play at 4k 60fps all day long in any game. And the cpu cooler is quiet, safe, and keeps things cool. You get a faster ssd, and a 5TB HDD. Yeah, that's right, 5TBs. Seriously. Plus DDR4 memory is way faster than DDR3, the hexacore cpu is just as fast in gaes as your u and does way better in tasks that can push all six cores to the max. And all X99 motherboards are high quality, they're the new kid on the block in motherboad technology, so don't worry about it being a bad motherboard overall. It's an incredible motherboard that is priced very well. And with the $100 you save, you could get an even better X99 mobo if you want. Again, the Titan X is a beast, the psu gets the job done, and your optical drive can een read blu-ray. This is one of the best gaming PCs you could put together.
