Boot up problem, dead hardware?

Just yesterday i accidentally tipped over a drink while the computer was on and it hit the top fan and soaked the motherboard and ram slot area. I switched to a spare motherboard and plugged in the same psu, cpu and cpu fan. Now it turns on for 2 seconds , reboots , and then makes a really rapid continuous beeping noise for about 10 seconds and then restarts itself again. Could it be the cpu that is dead? Also I submerged the ram and gpu into 91% isopropyl alcohol to rid of the sticky residue, did i make a mistake? Thanks in advance.

The CPU will rarely die. From my experience, the motherboard will be shot fairly easy, but the CPU is not as fragile. I once saw a CPU with every last pin crushed down flat. My friend took a dental pick and lifted them into place (this took some time) and it still worked like nothing ever happened. People also like to do crazy stuff like put chocolate or cheese where the thermal paste should be to see if it will hold up/work... and even after something like that the CPU can still come out alive. I'm not saying that's with every case, but they are pretty tough.

Sounds like a mess. Do you have spare RAM that you can try in the new mobo? If so, that's the next step I'd take. Personally, I wouldn't submerge anything. However, I'm not sure if this can cause issues. I think it could.

I don't have spare ram but without putting the ram in I get the constant reboot and beeping noises.

You stated that you switched to spare mobo and plugged in the cpu and fan after cleaning it off. You didn't state that you applied thermal paste. Did you apply thermal paste and just not state it in your OP?

That could absolutely be the problem. You need a fresh, clean surface with new thermal paste. That thermal paste was not only damaged by the liquid, but when you took everything apart the seal was broken.

Good luck! And I know you know this already because you used the 91% alcohol already, but make sure to clean those connections good with alcohol and make sure there are no itty bitty pieces of anything on them before application.

I dont see any similar beeping codes. It beeps really really rapidly , as i counted just about 40 times and then shuts off.

Do you have another CMOS battery to try? Try that. Then, I would test the PSU to make sure that's OK (do the paperclip test). I found this guide in another post http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/261145-31-perform-steps-posting-post-boot-video-problems -- Follow the instructions and see if that helps.

Hello, I'm back. I have had no luck on determining which parts are dead due to the lack of hardware to narrow down the possibilities. I will be bringing it to a computer store tomorrow. Will post when I get back from there.

I just came back from the computer repair store. We were able to diagnose that it was the ram. The psu and cpu were fine. Thank you Tiffany for your help!
