So, my friend has been having a problem with his computer with games freezing. Its been killing his characters in Diablo and losing him games in CS:GO. Figured it might be a driver issue, so we reinstalled graphics drivers twice. Didn't help. Ran some antivirus. Didn't help. Looked at programs running when the games froze: nothing out of the ordinary. Finally thought it might be a corrupted install, so we wiped the drive, put on a fresh install of 8.1, installed drivers, and CS:GO. Within 3 minutes of starting the game, it froze. The only thing I can think of now is a hardware problem, but I have no idea how to diagnose those, as I've never had to deal with that before. Where should we go from here? How do we figure out whats going on here?
The freeze in his own words: "Can't do anything when its frozen. I can alt tab to where the sound will stop skipping but that is it. After a certain amount of time ranging from 30 seconds to that retarded one last night that went for like 3 minutes."
His skype also works while its frozen, and we can talk uninterrupted.

Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8300 @ 2.50GHz (4CPUs) ~6 years old.
8gb of DDR3 1066MHz.
Radeon R9 270x Windforce Edition 2GB GPU ~2-3 years old.
