Hi,

My GT 230 video card has died (again). I already replaced it once but it was under warranty. Now it's not. I just want to replace it with a different card. Its overheating so I have the side of my tower off and I'm using a regular house fan to cool it down. Hey...it works! Haha...

I was told that the GT 630 and the GT 640 would both be good replacements. I wanted to check here first before I purchased one. :)

I just want my PC to run as good as it did with the GT 230. Yeah, its low-end, but its all I can afford. =P

My monitor is a 27 inch (if it makes a difference). HP2711x

My pc specs are here > http://

Thanks!

It should fit in your tower, but measure it out with a ruler or tape measure before hand other wise you will need a riser which makes it very hard to have a closed case. the gt64 should be better despite the .5 GB less RAM, but often the 1 and the 2 GB models are about $5-10 apart meaning the 2 GB one could be more worth it. also make sure the expansion slots on the case will work, mine stared one too low on a old case so it had to get cut.

Excellent! Thank you for your quick response, Robert! I noticed that the 640 will give it a tad boost as well. that's enough for me. I figure that if I was content with the 230 performance, I'm sure I won't be disappointed with the 640.

Just two more questions...do you think the GT640 1gig would be just as good as the GT230 1.5gig? Or should I just go with the GT640 2gig? And what do you mean by 'the right sizes'? Do you mean what will fit in my tower?

Thanks again! :)

I think there is enough room. And I might as well get the 2gig as well. Unless I get a really good deal on a 1gig. Now its time to shop on ebay. :D

Thanks, Robert! I really appreciate your help! :)

Hi RObert,

would the 740 require a larger power source? since this system is i think 350W?
