When I put my GPU (geforce 7950 gx2) in my computer and start it up, the computer lights flash and the fans run but the monitor doesn't turn on. (The monitor is connected to the motherboard.) Then once I take the graphics card out and reboot everything is fine. One of the capacitors (i think that's what it is) is missing on the GPU. My power supply is rated at 500W. Any ideas on where the fault is and why it does not work. Thanks all

Solution

The fault is the damaged gpu.

I attempted to repair the gpu but now when I press the power button the fans lights etc dont turn on at all. I took it out and tried using a different gpu and all is well. any ideas why the change? my thought is if I repaired it incorrectly the same thing should happen.
