I have few games on steam and all of them has a magnitude of nearly 80GB. Iam downloading them again because I lost the files. I am planning to re install windows.

I need to know that whether I can install steam on a seperate partition?

When I format c: the main drive, Can I re install wndows in the future and just start steam? Is there any specific methods to to this.

Ex: When I need a format. I just go to the partition where steam is installed and delete everyting on the folder except steamapps and steam.exe
And when I install windows again what sould i do? How should I install steam

Or is there any other better methods?

Hope you got my question

Dude I don't understand. Can you explain a bit more? Thanks

The easiest solution is to just install Steam somewhere other then the C:\ drive. By default, apps are going to install to Steam\Steamapps\Common, so putting the Steam install elsewhere will change where apps are downloaded/installed too. I've got all my Steam games on my D:\ drive, ready to move over if I get a new PC.

Hi, But when I reinstall Windows, There are lots of unwanted files right? Steam said to delete everything except steamapps and the.exe during a move.

Since you have it like that What happens when you re-install windows?

Is that true btw?

You do not have to install Steam on the same drive as you want the games on.

If you have another drive or partition to put the games on:
Create a folder on that drive or partition. Call it MyGames, or whatever...
Copy your existing SteamApps folder to that new folder you just made
Reinstall your OS
Install the Steam client.
In the Steam client....give it another location - E:/MyGames
It should pick up all the games you just moved over.

Next time you need to reinstallt he OS, just point the Steam client at that same folder, MyGames.

Hi thanks very much. Can I set another drive or partion in the first point (installation) without moving steam apps later ? I mean does steam give an option create steamapps in a different drive or partition in the setup process?

Btw you helped me very much sir.
I am going to purchase gta v lI don't want to download it everytime i re install windows LOL

During the installation of the Steam client, no.
You can install the client on whichever partition you want, and games will install to that location by default. But I find it just as easy to have the client on my C drive with all the other applications.

Hi, My last question would be what happens if I install the steam client and all the steam games on a different partition like gamerk316 said? Then What should I do when I re-install windows? This method sounds a bit weird right?

Thanks for all the help dude !

No, not weird at all.
The client can be on the same, or different partition. Your actions after reinstalling the OS would be pretty much the same.

Either on the same partition or different, either way you'll have to reinstall the client.

See my pic above. The F drive holds most/all of my games. All you'd have to do after reinstalling it is to go into the settings, and verify or change the location to the game partition and folder you want. The games themselves are fine.

So what you say is, Install the client in C: and make a library folder in somewhere else and store games there right?

I have that many steam games now that my steamapps folders are on 3 different drive - you can add as many different drives/partitions as you like to steam .
When you download a new title you get the option which drive/partition you want to install to.
