Hey everyone,

My wireless router is up stairs in my unit. Will I lose much bandwidth/throughput or gain errors with data transfer if I use a 10m 2 copper phone cable extension to move the router downstairs from the phone socket, and then a 10m ethernet cable from the router to my PC?

Or would I just be better off using a wireless adapter on my PC?

Any advice would be appreciated.

The extra 10m of phone extension cable is almost irrelevant compared to the (maybe 3 miles?) cable length from the exchange to your phone.

CAT5e should still give you a gigabit connection over 100m of cable, with no impact on latency or throughput at all.

No question at all that going cable is by far the better option.

Yeah the phone cable extension would be on the WAN side and yeah it's DSL. I was thinking it should be ok, seen as there would be a fair length of twin copper from my socket back to the pit out on the street.

Thanks for your reply.
