My new mATX motherboard Gigabyte GA-H81M-DS2's USB3 port doesn't seem to perform as advertised, it peaks at 45mb/s while transferring file between it and a USB3 External HDD (model in link), I checked the Device Manager and USB3.0 controller seems to have no problem, am I missing something? Do I need to manually install some drivers .etc. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

External HDD: 2TB WD 2.5" USB 3.0 Elements Portable HDD (http://www.computeralliance.com.au/2tb-wd-2.5-usb-3.0-elements-portable-hdd-pn-wdbu6y0020bbk-pesn)

Hi there ThatAngryMan,

Have you tried the drive on a different port? You can try connecting the drive to the ones on the back of the computer case. Also, you can try attaching the drive with a different USB cable(even to another system in order to be sure whether the slow transfer speed is caused by the drive or your system).

Apart from that, you can go do your MOBO's website and reinstall/update your USB 3.0 drivers.
It will not hurt to test your drive with WD's Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool as well. The results will show you the overall health status of the drive.

WD's DLG tool: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=CnvSJo

Hope this will help,

Use the "Intel update utility" and install the latest Intel usb3 drivers with it as well as the intel chipset drivers (inf).

To test the speed use iometer or similar. You should get like 100mb/s average. File moving speed is always dependent of the size of the file. Your speed could be normal.

Thanks, using the port at the back of the PC worked, but my front port is suppose to be USB3, is there any way to "fix" this because this computer was prebuilt for me, the guy might have plugged in into the wrong usb header.

My case is CoolerMaster k380

edit: nevermind, I opened up the case and jsut found out that there are no USB3 header on the mobo, it was just the case that had front usb3 port, thanks alot!
