Hello everyone!

I had this problem where steam was unable to write to my C or D drive. My C drive is my SSD with my OS installed and my D drive is my HDD where I want all my steam games to be installed.

I asked a friend and he did some stuff with permissions and registry. (I'm not sure the details) and now steam is installed on my C drive along with an mmo I love to play. However after creating a "Steam Library" folder on D drive and designating it as the location for my other steam games I wanted to download to it I got a unable to write error. I'm so confused about this permission issue since I'm the only person that has an account on my pc. (I'm admin)
To be specific: http://puu.sh/hDvhv/600ac5d01e.png (picture of the error)

My friend was just visiting at the time and will be a while before he comes over again. He doesn't like to give instructions via phone :| So I decided to open a thread about this problem that's been plaguing me for 2 and 1/2 months.

Any help given would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

My first guess is you are not the owner of the folder. If you using windows 7, right click on the folder, click properties, click the security tab, click advanced, click the owner tab, click edit, check the box to include subcontainers and folders and take ownership of the folder.

both of you go to www.join.me, one of you start a meeting and the other join it. You will be able to give him control of the computer and he can fix whatever permissions he messed up. All you needed to do was add another steam library destination and then install your games to it.
