My current 2 way SLI are GTX470 PCI-E 2.0 x16. MB has (3) PCI-E 2.0 Slots

I have MB that can fit 3 way.
Only issue that I have with this set up is that
1. it's an out dated/over priced setup
2. Only 1280 MB x2 VRAM= 2.56GB
3. It only has 2.0 slots.

And I don't want to upgrade (side grade with additional VRAM) too much but enough that my machine up for a little more to keep up with new games.

So I'm thinking of GTX 970 PCI e 3.0 to be my primary and keeping the other two GPU to make 3way SLI.

Any saying(s) would be appreciated.

first off you can't SLI different series of cards aka 400 with 500, etc. Second that 970 is about 5 times faster than 470s in SLi. I would just ditch those old cards. Finally, PCIE is backwards compatible and PICE 2.0 16x bandwidth isn't even fully utilized yet. you are 100% good to go once you get rid of those other cards.
