I have a Samsung 850 Evo 128gb ssd that I use for my Windows 8.1 pro OS and all my programs and drivers. I use programs like iTunes, MakeMKV, Handbrake, Wondershare video converter ultimate, ComicRack, and Comic Tagger. I have My itunes and ComicRack libraries set to a separate hdd also my MakeMKV destination set to the same hdd. So I dont think that my libraries are the cause of loss of space on my ssd because I have 100gb in iTunes music alone and another 50 in comics and tons more in videos created with MakeMKV. I set up trim, disable hibernation, disabled recycling bin (alittle late in doing so) and took off indexing and cleared disk space temps and stuff. but Im missing like 30gbs or more of space that seems to disappear alittle more everytime I use MakeMKV to rip my dvds. I checked the ssd drive and cant find huge temp files or where the space is being used up. What am I doing wrong? How am I slowly running out of space? Should I not even have these programs on my ssd to begin with? I use them alot and thought theyd benefit from the ssd speed and I thought having the libraries sent to my hdd it would be ok. Help?

Windows will, by default, set the Page File on the drive windows is installed to. Page File is like system-reserved memory windows will use if all physical RAM is occupied.

For example, in my system with 6GB of RAM, windows by default allocates 6144MB (6GB) of space from my SSD for the page file. That's 6GB of space being unused.

You can do the following with page file:
-set custom size
-designate which hard drive the page file is stored
-disable it

In general I would be sure to keep documents off of the SSD.

What is windirstat? I turned off hibernation already, i think i removed page file too. And i checked my system restore points and i only had one. I was going to remove all but one but only had one. After installing all my programs after os i had like 97gb then i did a few dvd rips and put my itunes library together and didnt think to look at the size left bc i didnt save anything to it. I had it all routed to my hdd and one day noticed it was low 80s then hibernation and page file and trim and all the tweaks brought me back to 86 then after a few more dvd rips i noticed im at 74gb. How is it tht im using space when i have it sent to my hdd? I really believe its makemkv so i deleted and havent reinstalled yet but didnt get space back. Debating a fresh install on my ssd again but id rather not waste writes bc its limited.

WinDirStat is an application that shows where (most of) your drive space is going.
Turn your page file back on, but set it to a small size...1GB min/max
How did you turn the hibernation off? The link I posted above will actually turn it off AND delete the file

How much space is your drive reporting as used currently? Hard to read through that wall of text.

And do NOT worry about "id rather not waste writes bc its limited". For any semi-recent consumer grade drive, that is not a concern.

As said...my current C drive (3 year old 120GB SSD) is ~80GB used space.

I used a command line to turn hibernation off. I will try tht tho. Im most likely going to reinstall after i wipe the drive again. Wht steps should i take to install and route my programs to avoid this in the future? Also what all do i have to do when setting up the ssd? Like everything tht would benefit me? Ex. Hibernation off, trim on, page file step by steps for everything i need setup? Thanks for your help

i do suspect tht makemkv is where the space loss is coming from yet ive searched for other folders in my ssd and cant find wht it is. I thought maybe temp folders tht are hidden but i couldnt find anything. Should i just not install it on the ssd do u think?

Where is that particular application saving things? Temp files, etc...

My destination output is my hdd and idk where the temp files were originally bc i deleted the folder but i ripped a few dvds prior to switching it to my hdd for the temp files as well. So idk why its draining my ssd
