Hello. Hopefully this has not been asked before but I could not find anything that helped when I searched the forums.

I have a newish (about 2 months) Toshiba 500GB Canvio Slim II that worked fine when I got it. I used the programs to back up my computer and everything. I don't care about the files because my computer is fine, but my external hard drive will not work at all.

What I've noticed: It does not show up under my computer and it has no letter assigned. It is Disk 1 in disk management but it is unallocated and is not initialized. If I try to initialize it I chose the master option (can't remember what it is called) and I get a CRC error. I have used the diskpart commands that I found online but I cannot delete the partition either. Because it has no letter assigned I cannot even do dskchk.

I really appreciate any help you guys can give me. This is driving me crazy.

Hi there Sadiew1990,

This error is usually not a good sign. :( It is good that you don't really need the data stored on the drive.
I would advise you to test the drive with a brand specific(or a third party one) testing tool. In case the drive fails the tests(as it will most probably do), just contact the manufacturer's Support and eventually RMA the drive. :)

Cheers,

That's unfortunate to hear, but I'm glad to know what to expect at least. Thank you for your response!
