I have £500 to buy a cpu + video card + cooler + ram + motherboard, im looking for intel i5, i7 if possible just wondered if anyone had a build i could

Solution
an i5 is fine for video editing, unless you're doing a lot of demanding, 3D, crazy stuff. Another good alternative is the Xeon. You'll get 4 cores plus hyperthreading to simulate 8-ish.

True, not sure if you already have a fast HDD or new SSD. if you're manipulating a lot of large files and/or waiting for your editing software to load, definitely consider a small SSD in your budget. It will drop those load times to near 0.
