I am installing windows 8 on my PC which currently does not have an OS. I am currently at the point where I have to select a harddrive to install to. No harddrive detected so I'm gathered I have to install SATA drivers.

I followed the booklet that came with my Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 motherboard. I have copied the files in the Hw8\RAID\x64 to a USB device from my motherboards cd and plugged it in. I'll browse for the files, and load the folder. In the driver select screen nothing will show up if the "Hide drivers not compatible, etc." box is marked. If it isn't check marked it will list the file: "AMD AHCI Compatible RAID Controller (C:\Hw8\RAID\x64\ahcix64s.inf)", which I will select and attempt to load. Upon doing so it appears to do nothing and return me to the screen to select which harddrive I would like to install OS to, which still lists no harddrive.

Solution
With correct BIOS settings your ready to install operating system. The driver you list would require the SATA BIOS configuration be set to [RAID]. That's what the drivers in the Hw8\RAID\x64 folder are for.
