Computer randomly freezes and shuts down after so many weeks

I can't figure this issue out. Every once in a while my PC will randomly just freeze (usually when i'm running high loads on CPU like VMware AND heavy browsing). Could this be the problem:

1. Running my 2400mhz vengeance pro ram AT 2400mhz?
2. Running asus's optimized power phase. Puts CPU at default 3.9ghz on all cores with stock voltage.
3. (I doubt this one): could windows 8 be causing the issue?

I was gona start testing some stuff to see what's causing it. But I prefer to ask for help first since that usually is much faster.

How hot does it get? It is possibly a heat issue. Visually inspect for bad caps as those will be a physical sign of overheating as well as a possible cause.
PSU caps may also be an issue. Check the rail voltage with an o-scope to make sure it is giving clean power.
I've never known windoze to cause a computer to freeze so it would have to be user error. ;)

Well, the answer would vary depending upon the exact nature of the "Freeze," (there's so many diverse ways a PC can fail completely!) but in a lot of these cases, (such as sudden entire lock-up, spontaneous shut-off, or a distinct visual glitching followed by a reset) the cause is either going to be thermal or power.

In other words, either you've got a part overheating (check your temperature readings periodically, ESPECIALLY immediately after recovering from one of these crashes) or, alternatively, your PSU is overloaded. That one is harder to check, but mostly can be guessed at based upon your PSU model and what other parts you have. (Read: you'd have to post 'em. For the PSU, open up your case and look for the sticker on it; photograph it and upload/link if need be)
