I have an MSI 870-G54 Motherboard and just upgraded my video card to a GEForce GTX 960 which solved the stuttering problem I was having in games but my CPU is a wimpy AMD Phenom 3.10GHz Dual Core and I want to avoid upgrading my motherboard if I can help it. Most of the motherboard/cpu combos I've seen limit the amount of RAM slots (also trying to avoid having to buy new RAM). Any advice on a better AM3 CPU would be awesome.

There's not much room or compatibility for you to move up. The two best choices, which probably aren't worth the investment unless you can get them cheap, would be the Phenom II X4 z980 3.7Ghz Quad core or the Phenom II X6 1100T 3.3Ghz 6 core.

The best cheap upgrade would be an FX-6300 or 6350 with a Gigabyte 970A-UD3P or MSI 970 Gaming board.

I figured as much. Thank you for the suggestions, I will see if I can find them cheap. :)
