I have lots of experience with building PCs and working with them, however I have never overclocked before so was wondering if someone could help me out!

CPU: Intel Core i7 4790k @ 4.00GHz
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i GTX (Push/Pull Setup)
Motherboard: Asus ROG Maximus VII Hero
PSU: Evga SuperNOVA 750 G2

I have been doing some research on the overclocking and have read that using the auto overclock with AI Suite changes the voltage too high, so I wanted to speak with someone with experience before I try anything.

I want to do a max over clock where it wont really affect the durability of my processor, I don't mind if all the fans were set to 'turbo' setting all the time as I mainly have my headset on.

Any help would be appreciated!

You can see how hot they get. I doubt you'll get 5GHz. But if you won the chip lotto, you might get a stable 4.8 that doesn't run too hot.

Seeing you got the cooler, you got to at least try it. See how they went up in 0.1GHz steps, - using the lowest voltage they could that still stayed stable when stress tested.

Hi guys

I'm also new to overclocking but there is something concerning me regarding voltages. I also have a Maximus VII Hero and have been using the automatic CPU Level up feature in Bios to overclock my i7 4790k to 4.8Ghz which is the maximum setting available. I have tested it on CPU intensive games like iRacing and Fallout 4, at 4k resolutions and triple screen setup and it seems pretty stable. I am using a Nepton 280L water cooler and the CPU temp never goes above 50c while playing games.

Here's what's concerning me...

I checked on AI Suite while playing games it shows that my CPU voltage was at times going up to around 1.38v (it seemed to always stay below 1.4). I've done some reading and it seems that people generally recommend keeping the voltages below 1.3v, as anything above may seriously reduce the lifespan on the CPU. But if I'm using the CPU Level up (auto function) in Bios, surely it would have some kind of safety measure in for noobs and wouldn't allow my CPU to be using too much voltage if it was dangerous, right?

Any help would be much appreciated.
