I have an Acer travelmate-4740 notebook. It had pre-installed windows7 pro licensed. There is a license sticker on the bottom of my laptop.
As my pc became slow I cleaned my hard disk and installed ubuntu. I did not create any backup before cleaning my hard disk. Now I want to reinstall windows 7 pro with my license. When I contacted microsoft they told me to collect an installation disk from acer. When I went to acer service center they did not provide me an installation disk.
Now how can I install windows 7 pro with my license?
The Alt+F10 function does not work. I can not restore my pc. Can anyone help me from where I can get the backup windows installation files for my acer travelmate 4740?

Ideally you should have created a backup of your original OS even if you weren't going to install Ubuntu, for the simple reason that all hard drives bite the dust sooner or later. Plus the fact that Acer doesn't supply recovery discs like some other laptop maker's do. That's why there's a utility on the laptop to make your own (or at least there was until you changed the OS).

I guess you never gave that much thought?

Provided you haven't 'wiped' or overwritten the factory recovery partition on the hard drive, you should be able to re-install the original OS from that:

Turn laptop OFF.
Turn it ON.
Hold down the Alt key and keep pressing F10 at the Acer logo.
Default password is 000000 (zeros, not letter O)

If recovery doesn't work, type your Product Key here to download a DVD-image from which you can create your own installation disc: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-recovery

From where can I get the windows installation files for my acer travelmate 4740? Can you help?

I can confirm that the Microsoft site I supplied a link to is currently down, although it was available yesterday (I always check that all links actually work before posting them).

Try again later today or tomorrow. (Microsoft hasn't taken it down otherwise a page would appear to inform you about it).
It's just temporarily unavailable as of this morning for some unknown reason - a server problem most likely.
