Going from SSD to HDD - Ish

Hello everyone. Planning on getting this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00A7JFYXC/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

Looks great for what I want. But I currently have a Seagate Barracuda 1tb HDD which I want my OS to be kept on but I will move most of my games / software to the SSD. Will there be much difference in loading the programs in the background (when booted) and loading while playing games like Warface / TF2 / Warframe?

should be other way round really--windows on the ssd and programs

games on the 1tb hdd

time saved every time you boot up and load/launch programs that way will exceed time saved loading games the other way round

Other way around. OS and applications on the SSD. Games and other stuff on the HDD.

In addition, I'd get almost any other SSD besides that particular one. It has 'issues'.

It boots fine just loads programs slow. Can I still do that?

You can, but that is a serious waste of an SSD.

And you can't move your programs. They would need to be reinstalled.
Games? Mostly, usually. See this for Steam games: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2965732

Game performance on the SSD? Only helps with level loading time. FPS is almost never affected.
Applications? Yes, they will be 'faster'. But not quite as fast as if they live on the SSD alongside the OS.

or stretch your budget to a 250/256gb ssd should cost less than another £30 to double ssd size

There ya go, the sumsung is much much better.

The ssd will help the OS and programs load significantly faster, it wont give you any better fps or anything in games. The only benefit it has for games is that games with large maps will load a little faster.
If that is something you are greatly wanting then might consider the 250gb drive.

Ok thanks for the help, especially USA.

So I'm not looking at FPS improvements, just reinstalling all my software (not drivers or anti virus) on the SSD. Will loading programs be faster? What about when the computer goes to desktop and starts everything up? I don't have Windows 8 DVD.

Programs will be 'faster', but not as good as it could be.

When you run an application, it is not only that application that is doing things. The OS is also working. And if that OS still lives on the HDD...it is going to run just as slowly as it does today. Pulling the files off the SD will be faster, but it still has the performance of the HDD based OS to deal with.

If the OS continues to live on the HDD, that will run no faster than it does today (Desktop and whatnot).
