Right now I got a FOXCONN P43AL-V/P43AL motherboard with a American Megatrends BIOS version 080015 (dated 2009). And a Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 processor. With 8GB DDR2 RAM.

I have bought a upgrade kit MSI Z97 GAMING 5 / i5 4690K / 8 GB SDRAM Bios: 64Mbit AMI UEFI. Chipset Intel® Z97 Express. And would like to know what I should do in Windows 7 before putting the new hardware in.

Should I uninstall some drivers or install a new windows?

Hi

I hope you have a retail windows 7
Find the windows key sticker you will need it

As the change of motherboard will require re activating
Oem windows 7 will not be able to re activate

Remove any device drivers found in program & features
Sound , network etc

If before shutting down for the last time with the old motherboard you remove the hard disk controller drivers from the registry you have a better chance of starting up on the new motherboard

Google fix hdc windows 7
Consider getting Hirens boot cd for the fix hdc program that rips out the Sata drivers

Best of luck

I too would recommend a clean install however since you are moving from Intel to Intel you could just drop the new hardware in and it will boot. But it will depend on a few factors such as if your old setup is in AHCI mode or IDE. That will be one factor.

That said, a clean install is the best method as you wont have to worry about old drivers causing any issues. When you just drop in and boot, old drivers have a habit of causing issues.

You can backup yourself up, put in the new motherboard and see what happens. One of three things will happen: It will try to boot into windows and bluescreen shortly (had this experience with a system it doesn't wreck anything, but it won't boot because driver error), it will boot, but some drivers might need to be reinstalled in windows, or it will work with zero problems. I have had experience with it totally working or not working. Either way backup and good luck.

Ok tnx for answers guys. I'll guess I'll just make a backup of my files and reinstall Windows 7 after they new hardware is put in. Got a retail version so it will work. I maybe could uninstall all drivers and do the hdc fix you said, but dont fully understand that, so maybe best if I just make clean install so I dont mess up anything. Again tnx for all comments :)
