Help: Setting up Homegroup with direct lan/ethernet (no internet/router involved)

Is it possible to setup a homegroup without using a router or internet connection (2 computers directly connected through ethernet/lan)? I managed to get file sharing work between both computers (entered credentials/passwords) but it would be nice to setup a homegroup however but it won't let me change the local area connection to be set to home/private.

I dont believe you can set up a homegroup without a default gateway address.

If the homegroup is that necessary over traditional file shares you have 2 options:
1) get a basic router
2) install dhcp and dns software on 1 pc and let it provide dhcp/dns to the other one(s).
