Hello I recently obtained my optiplex 790 which has a considerably better specs than my old laptop as for one it does not have a 1.6ghz mobile celeron and now has
Core i3 2100
4gb Ram
Amd Radeon 5450
unknown seagate 250gb hard drive

It runs older games fine and browses the web etc fine but whenever it comes to do with anything to do with the file system it mainly gives me a spinning wheel and takes 2-10 seconds to load such as right clicking a file or opening windows explorer within uTorrent to choose my download location. I think this is because of my hard drive which I was going to upgrade to a 2tb anyway

is there anything else I can do to fix this in the meantime as it is rather iratating. At the same time as my hard drive upgrade I will also be upgrading the ram, PSU, Case and graphics card if that makes any difference.
Thank you.

On a side note not too important but if you know please do tell.
My graphics card will be a r9 290 and I can see that it will be bottlenecked by my i3 but I was just curious to know what kinds of games I can play with that setup so that I know whether I need to immediately start saving for a newer generation/quad-core cpu

Could just be the 'unknown seagate HDD' if it is turning off to power save, then it has to spin back up when you make a demand of it. Usually 5400rpm, 5900rpm, and 6300rpm do this. 7200rpm drives can also do it, but if they are the main system drive it rarely happens.

This usually results in a delay of 2-10 seconds before you can view the contents of the file system.

If you set your system to maximum performance mode in Windows I imagine it may stop happening. I leave it on for power savings on secondary drives myself.
Hi, for the fle problem, I suspect malware :

Boot in safe mode with networking an Gogo bleepingcomputer and download run :

adwcleaner, JRT, rogukiller, malware bytes (run in that order ) and combofix if win7 and under.

could also spybot, or program that monitors hard drive.

about the core i3 and r9 290: depends on games you play.
I can't list all games and give you comments on it but bottom line you can only play on low / medium graphics for 2014 - 2015 games.
Don't plan getting good fps on high graphics with that gear on games like BF4 and other cpu intensive games.

Okay, sorry but I do not know what these programs you have recommended are, do you know any tutorials of what to do and have no idea of what safe mode is on windows. thank you for answering my questions though

Probably check the hard drive option before delving into the realm of malware cleaning.

Though bleepingcomputer.com is a great site for such problems. Combo-fix plus Anti-Malwarebytes does get rid of most things.

However, using safe mode with networking to download it is a terrible idea. Many of today's malware can detect and alter combofix. It is recommended to download it using an external PC, rename the file, and save it to some removable media to get it to the potentially infected computer.
