So I've been using PcPartPicker for making a gaming computer. The one thing I am concerned about is in the compatibility notes, is says, "Some Intel Z87 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Haswell Refresh CPUs."

Now, I'm not entirely sure what that means, but I don't want to take any chances in buying a motherboard that doesn't work. Would someone tell me if the Asus Sabertooth Z87 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard requires one of these updates? Also, the cpu I plan to use is an Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor.

That's the release date and will have the original BIOS, as more are made they are sent to the re/e-tailers with the BIOS version that is current at time of the production, i.e. a mobo actually 'made' 6 months after the initial release will have a newer BIOS

As far as I'm aware, I think the board was released sometime around May of 2013. Would this motherboard be new enough?

Due my 1st attempt,I'd say it definitely is updated enough,but...It all depends on what kind of mandatory changes come with the newer BIOS version.
The might released one after Q2'14.
If they didn't,you'll have to find a same period CPU [preferably a newer one than the i5 4690k] and see how's going.
