ok i have a Q6700 Quad core CPU , im playing GTA V 1080p 30fps on normal/high (R7 260x 2GB) and thats not enough fps for me so i was thinking about upgrading to a intel core 2 extreme qx9650 , will i get better performance or should i just buy a new motherboard and cpu (if so) what cpu is good for under $200 AU dollars (intel or amd) and motherboard? thanks

Unless you're getting that Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme for free, I'd recommend standing pat until you can afford a quality core system (CPU/Mobo/RAM) upgrade. Keep saving until you get to ~$350 AU.

Edit: At a minimum, here's what I'd recommend:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Pentium G3258 3.2GHz Dual-Core Processor ($89.00 @ Centre Com)
Motherboard: ASRock Z97M Pro4 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($139.00 @ CPL Online)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($85.00 @ IJK)
Total: $313.00
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

As I said, "At a minimum..."

Minimum system requirements for GTA V state a quad-core system (though some people say it runs "fine" on their dual-core systems).

The Intel Core I5-750 is a socket 1156 processor and is not compatible with your current motherboard. Socket 1156 was a short-lived socket (only one generation). I don't know how available they are or for what price. Either way, I wouldn't recommend it. If you're going to purchase something, make it the current generation of components.

Yeah, I would keep your quad core and wait, the G3258 destroys, but alot, and I mean ALOT of the new games are starting to require a quad core, and you got one

The new stuff from Intel will hit this year, I'm hoping they come out with a proper budget quad core, that would be awesome. AMD is looking like 2016 for anything exciting(hopefully) from them. I would listen to Wolfshadw, just wait.

Sometimes a CPU will work just enough to get you into BIOS far enough to update it. Otherwise, you'll either need a fully compatible, low-cost processor or you'll need to take it to a local computer shop and have them (pay them to) update it for you.

It depends on what version BIOS the motherboard ships with. I always assume that the motherboard ships with the earliest version BIOS. If the processor requires a later BIOS than what I assume ships with the motherboard, then it may not work.
