Hey guys.

I have an APU 6800k , and i am NOT using the intergrated GPU. I instead have an Nvidia GTX 650 as a dedicated GPU.

My question is , does disabling the IGP draw less power? Cause i am looking to Overclock my cpu as it is bottlenecked by GTA V, and i have a not-so-good VIP gold 400W SMPS.

So i would like to be a little cautious here. Can i OC it from 4,1GHZ to 4.4 GHZ (Which is already built in , but i have disabled turbo mode due to power supply fears)

Disabling it will cut down on the power draw but their no reason to overclock it after that just cut the turbo back on and your at the 4.4 again.
Don't expect much performance increase because that's not much of a increase and your video card is also weak.

I'd be surprised if the 650 runs GTA-V much faster than a slide show. It's essentially the first step up beyond the APU graphics engine.

If you are not really stressing the 6800k graphics engine, the CPU cores and UNB (the 'uncore') don't pull much juice. With your TX3 you should have no issues running the 6800k at a substantially higher rate.

I hope it helps you -- but don't count on much.

Installing a graphics card normally disables the iGPU automatically.

Wow @Zerk2012 what rhymes with that name? Not everyone is as cool as you and has dual 970s and 3x monitors. How come a Master didn't know the iGPU would be auto-disabled?

Thanks for the answers. @ zerk2012 and @Wisecracker, not everyone has access to monster rigs , my primary reason being i'm still studying and my parents don't believe in upgrading PC's just for gaming purposes. And also , PC parts are really expensive here in India.

Just FYI: I am running GTA V @ 1400x900 , everything on HIGH @ 40-60 FPS (without AA) .

Do not underestimate the power of Optimization ;)

In the future of course finding a used/new HD 7750 1-2GB GDDR5 to run in dual graphics mode along with at least bumping the mem to 1600mHz would run great.
You need memory running in dual channel so if your 8GB is 1 stick you would need add one.
Just take a look at the youTube vids on running A8 6600k + HD 7750 in dual graphics, hybrid, crossfire mode.
The 6800k would run just as well or better.

Where do you see auto disabled? Their a difference in not being used and disabled.
You should rethink your words and if you have nothing to apply to the post their no reason to try personal attacks.

Nothing against what you have to use ( I've had worse) just stating that going from 4.0 to 4.4 is not going to help your performance much.

On AMD MBs that support APUs the iGPU is disabled automatically when a discrete graphics card is installed.
To enable the iGPU for Dual Graphics Mode or any other reason you need to go into the BIOS and Force the iGPU to be on and select a buffer size.

So...

The Trinity/Richland APUs use 'Turks' Radeon cores and will only run dual graphics with the HD 6570/6670s (preferably, DDR3).

The HD 7750s use Cape Verdi (I think) GCN cores and are pretty much useless for dual-graphics (the Kaveri APUs require the R7 240/250).

What you are likely seeing is the HD7750 simply strutting its stuff on its own.

... Do not underestimate the power of Optimization

You duh man! :)

The a10 6800k have some cases where they have been able to run with the HD 7750. Although Its a Hit-or-miss Case. AMD has not mentioned that you can run it with a HD 7750 , but some people have got lucky and managed to get it running.

It's a disservice to the community to suggest an HD7750 will run dual-graphics with a Richland APU.

It's not supported by AMD. Common sense will even tell you that alternate-frame rendering with a discreet "GCN' card working in tandem with the APU 'Turks' graphics engine (VLIW4 instruction set) is an exercise in futility.

Post 1,000 YouTube videos if you wish ... It's not supported.
