CPU I7 Hitting 100C Temp without shutting down.

Heyo, new here.

Recently I was playing the new killing floor with my partner and she said she heard a couple beeping noises coming from my end over skype. I have a noise cancelling headset so I didnt hear anything. I was trying to think of what it was, and wondered whether or not it was my computer getting a bit unhappy, so I decided to check temps, as I've occasionally had my PC start up and refuse to turn on citing my CPU overheating (despite being just turned on) but have never had random shutdowns or anything of the like.

So I checked my CPU temps using Core Temp (and some other program), and I'm getting about 50-70c idle temp when not playing games, and while playing it continues upwards until it hits 100c. My PC isn't shutting down and isn't getting laggy or anything, I've noticed no problems, but am definitely sure it shouldn't be so hot. It was rather dusty, I removed most of the dust, but it still reports it getting hot.

I also recognise that those are fairly high average idle temps too from what I've read.

I live in Aus, outside temp was 10c while playing this, but in this room it is more like 25+, though I feel like that would not account for such major temps.

Could it be faulty sensors? From what I've read, 100c is the max temp for my CPU and it should recognise the temperature and shut itself down to protect it from damage. I have not noticed any other issues what so ever.

I had considered removing the fan and stuff to replace the thermal paste but I'm no where near confident enough to do those things.

Model: Intel Core i7 960. everything in my PC is stock. No overclocking. No aftermarket. As of typing this my core temps are 51-58c. I ran warthunder and within 10 minutes they were 100, 100, 97, 97. No noticable changes to FPS or performance changed, no beeping. Never had bluescreens or random shutdowns that I can recall.

I hope someone here has any ideas. It's really stressing me out, because I can't afford new parts or anything. I think my plan at the moment is to go buy some compressed air and give my PC a thorough go-through.

Thank you for reading.

Gonna get some thermal paste and see if that helps, thanks.
