Hardware I'm currently using in my setup:
-AMD FX 9590 8-Core Processor @ 5.6GHz (liquid cooled)
-Coolmax 1600 Watt Modular Power Supply
-Corsair 16GB 1866MHz DDR3 Memory (liquid cooled)
-Gigabyte AM3 990FX UD7 Motherboard
-NVIDIA GeForce GTX Titan X 12GB GDDR5 Graphics Cards (Quad SLI)

This is the computer I'm currently using right now; everything works fine but I have some questions about the setup. I know many people that are reading this are probably wondering what's wrong with me for using AMD with Quad SLI GTX Titan X's, or even just one GTX Titan X- but that's my preference. I love AMD and I've been happy with them since I first stated building computers many years ago.

Anyways, people often say using more than 2-Way SLI or 3-Way SLI should be only on an Intel Motherboard and Processor but I'm currently using 4-Way SLI on an AMD Motherboard and Processor, yet I see nothing wrong with it. As stated in my hardware setup list, the processor is at a very good and stable overclock as well. Is there anything I'm missing out on by not using Intel?

Putting it short, I would like to know if this is a good setup for developing and scripting / gaming, maximum performance wise or are the GTX Titan X's in Quad SLI just overkill? Also, I would like to know if I'm possibly bottlenecking the graphics cards as well. Recommendations?

*To clarify, I got the GeForce GTX Titan X's each for 40% off, so it was hard to say no to that. Worse case, I can leave two in my current setup and build a new setup and put the other two in that one.*

Well the law of diminishing returns really makes Quad SLI and Crossfire a little bid of a waste. If your CPU is at 99% utilization when gaming then it probably is bottle-necking your GPUs.

So if your CPU is bottle-necking then you should switch to intel x99 chip-set because you are as far as AMD will get you right now.

So, theoretically if it's not using 99% or even around that range of CPU utilization there wouldn't be a point of needing Intel?
