Best Home Server Case

Tyler back again. I'm in the midst of upgrading my aging home server and would really appreciate some insight.

It's a pretty decent setup for a home server (i3, 8GB ram, 6x sata ports) but the main drawback chosen was the case - a HORRIBLE budget case, $20 APEX. I mean for $20 it was worth it but, well, it was a $20 case. It has literally zero cooling other then an exhaust fan in the back and I've been hearing horrible screeching sounds from it lately that make me uneasy. I assume this is due to overheating and dust collection - and it's also run out of drive cage capacity and I need to add more storage.

My ideal case would support 10+ 3.5" drive bays, with fans cooling all the hard drive cages, as well as other fans cooling the motherboard and so forth. Silence would also be a huge plus.

From my research the best thing I could find was the Rosewill Throne. While technically a gaming case with a price premium, it fits all my criteria exactly.

10 Drive Cages
Supports any size ITX
Massive cooling options

While it looks like an amazing case, I was hoping some of you might know some more budget oriented options for me to consider. To be honest I'd like to fabricate my own custom case, as I know for a fact I could engineer something better (or at least more suited to my needs) then the current offerings. MountainMods offers some of that, but the prices are exorbitant and their options are quite limited.

Any suggestions ? If I don't figure out another option in the next 12-24 hours I will just bite the bullet on the Rosewill case and pay a premium for those drive cages.

I'd love to hear back from some of our resident case experts. You must be out there! Thank you.

I picked up the throne which supports 10 drives, and another 4 from my 3x5.25" to 4x3.5" bay adapter. A total of 14 internal 3.5" drive bays. For other people looking to create a beefy home server, the throne was a good choice. Other options I mulled over were the cooler master Cosmos II and the Thermaltake X9.
